It has been a lazy week here at my home.
But I did manage to get one thing accomplished....Covering my heart cutout on the quilt rack!
I visited my local Pat Catan's (If you have never been, shame on you!)
I located the wood aisle and came out with two piece of wood....one beveled edge piece ($.39) and a scrolled piece that said "family" ($.25)
I glued the pieces together. Painted, sanded, and stained...And they turned out like this:
Now you don't...
I did stop at a garage sale and picked this up for a buck...
I found this set of 3 wooden canisters at GW for $1 (50% off housewares day...Yipee!)
I stopped by Kris' blog at http://simplyprim.blogspot.com this morning...You have gotta stop over there...not just today...You need to add her to your blog roll!
This girl is amazing!
I was admiring Pam's soap holder too...but Kris took it one step further and created her own!
I was thinking of taking the simple way and just looking for a candle holder at GW and modifying that...but she actually took raw wood and created hers.
I so envy people like her...Their ability to use a tape measure and power tools.
Please check her posts out...you won't be sorry!
Well, that is all I have to share for today.
Have a great weekend friends...and thank you for stopping by!

How clever of you the way you covered the heart. Love your TS finds. You find the best stuff!
Kris is amazing, isn't she? Did you see the blanket crane she made?
Have a great weekend.

You have got to be one of the luckiest gals I know! LOVE them canisters! If ya ever want to swap anything shoot me an email, Ide love to!!
Girl, I LOVE your idea to cover the heart! The piece I have with hearts has 4 of them cut out of the door, so I want to actually jigsaw a long rectangle out and put chicken wire in the opening. One of these days! LOL!
I love your finds too, especially that crock candle holder. Very colonial! You find the best stuff!
Enjoy your weekend!
What a super neat idea for covering the heart! That technique could be used for covering a multitude of sins:)Have a great weekend!
Janene...good idea covering the hearts up. I too have many pieces with the hearts cut out. I can't believe you got all 3 canisters for $1.00. I found the same set at my local thrift store but had to buy them by the piece and paid way more than $1.00 for each one! Taking the eagles off was as far as I got. My thrift stores and Goodwill are never as cheap as the ones that a lot of you all go too. I printed out kris' soap holder post last night.
What an awesome idea to cover that heart Janene!! That canister set is gonna be awesome after you get done with it!! Have a great weekend Janene!

Your post is just in time! I found a shelf out in the garage with a heart cut out and I've been searching for something to cover it up. Guess I better head on over to Pat Catan's!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!!

Hi Janene,
You have wonderful ideas too Janene, I'm so enjoying my spicerack!
I can't wait to see what you do with those cannisters, I know they will be so prim:)
Rondell
oh my gosh! that looks great!!!
you would never know there was a heart cutout ever there.
love the candle holder too.
I love your idea to cover the heart. I have a couple of things that I need to do that to. Thanks for sharing. You found some great items. You are a lucky one!
Hello Janene, I love the way you covered the heart, it looks super prim now. And your yards sale finds are great. And NO, I don't think people clean their things before donating them, Yuk. I too admire women how can use power tools, I do good to use a drill LOL, I saw Kris's blog last night for the first time and LOVED IT, I added her to my roll right then.
Have a blessed weekend

Nice looking cover up for that heart! More goody finds i see! I saw Kris' tutorial and i am gonna make me one!
Good idea--never heard of Pat Katans but we have Hobby Lobby. Perhaps I can find something similar there. I have a deacon's bench with a heart right in the center of the back and like you, I think hearts may come back!
Hey wish that we has one of those Pat Caton stores in our area. Cute idea. Thanks for sending us to Kris site, pretty talented chic also.
Hey Janene! Thanks for checking out my blog....I now there isn't much going on too Thrifty or crafty right now, but I have high hopes that there will be in the near future!!! I really like what you did with the heart ---very good thinking! ....And I love Williamsburg pottery!!! Well, I LOVE Williamsburg!
Thank you for the sweet comments, Janene! That was very nice of you.
Don't you just love Pat Catans? We used to have one here in my hometown, but they closed and are supposedly going to reopen in a new building (but that was 2 years ago). I have two others that I go to that are about 20-25 minutes away. Have you checked out their primitive section? Great stuff!!
I love your idea for covering up the heart! Very clever!
You sure have great luck at your GW! I hardly ever find anything worth while at mine! :( Love the canister set.
Enjoy your weekend!

Janene,
Love how you covered the heart with the word family!! I have a wood chair with 3 hearts that I would like to cover...so thanks for sharing!! We have a Crafts2000 here, which is a Pat Catan's...but it has a different name here in our area. So I know where I will be going tomorrow!

The quilt rack looks great.
Never heard of Pat Catan's. Darn it!

So clever ... and perfectly prim! I can't wait to see those canisters once you've worked your magic on them too.
Janene,
That was a very smart way to cover the heart! I have a bench that has several hearts on it so I've got my wheels turning too! Yours turned out beautifully! I think your canisters have alot of potential and they were a great find too!
I know...Kris is also one of my heros! A girl with power tools...I wish I was like that. But then if I let Jason know I COULD do it, then I might be messing up! :)
And by the way, of course you are always welcome to use any idea you see over on my blog....that's what we do is share ideas with friends!
Have a great week!
Tammy
I was just given some benches with the heart cutout by my cousin. I was wondering how I was going to get rid of the heart! I plan on refinishing them and tucking them somewhere in the garden. Thanks for the idea!
